NAVM update When Symantec released its updated Definitions for SAM (which include detection and repair of AutoStart C and priorvariations), there was no comparable update posted for Symantec's newer Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh (NAVM).
Update: George Papanicolaou writes that an NAVM update is out (dated June 1). It is also now listed on Symantec's web site: click "NAV for Macintosh" from the popup menu). Susan Lesch writes: "The Read Me lists only detection for the AutoStart worms."

VirusScan Meanwhile, Network Associates tech support sent the following note in regard to a query about when they would provide an update to McAfee VirusScan that handles the AutoStart worms: "From what I am told we will be releasing a stand alone scanner to take care of the immediate problem. We'll be adding something to the current scan engine later. This should be with in the next couple of weeks. {For now,} to prevent spread of this virus, please turn off your CD AutoPlay option." (Thanks, MacNN.)

Worm web page Susan Lesch has posted a web page, The AutoStart Worms, summarizing information about the AutoStart worm, including links to other relevant web pages.

AutoStart and disk images James Atkinson reports that you can get the AutoStart worm from mounting an infected disk image file, just the same as if you had mounted an infected floppy disk (he spotted this tidbit in a thread on the TidBits-Talk mailing list).
