Anthony Weiner returns to Twitter, to Trump's dismay
The former Democratic representative who fell foul of a Twitter scandal offers a tentative tweet. The currently emotional Donald Trump immediately tweets back calling him a "pervert."
Twitter has enjoyed the levels of discourse of aover the last few days.
How odd, then, that former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, took a small step toward rehabilitating his presence on the site today.
You might remember Weiner. Helast year and was exposed for, well, sending rather exposed pictures of himself to an unsuspecting woman.
A few hours ago, he posted a link to an emotional YouTube video about the devastation in the Rockaways.
Weiner used to represent New York, so his foray onto Twitter to ask for help for the victims is entirely understandable. (I have embedded the video he was tweeting below.)
It didn't take long, though, for others to notice he was back.
Donald Trump immediately sailed onto Twitter to offer a charming welcome, clutching his wooden niblick.
It read: "Pervert alert. @RepWeiner is back on twitter. All girls under the age of 18, block him immediately."
In recent times, something has happened to Trump. I am not sure it's entirely good.
Last night he sent out virulent tweets demanding a revolution and claiming that the election was "a sham and a travesty."
Which some might interpret as meaning: "Oh, dear, my side lost."
However, I am not aware that Weiner committed any crime. If he chooses to go back to Twitter, and to begin some public renovation of his image, it would hardly be surprising. He's a politician. Before his Twitter faux pas, he was a popular one.
Last night, Twitter managed the public debate with seeming perfect ease. It is unsurprising, then, that Trump's intemperate warning has already attracted robust replies, even from those of his own persuasion.
This, for example, from ADAM:ISRAELRADIOGUY: "@realDonaldTrump as a supporter of the republicans I'm begging you - stop! stay out of politics - your a gift to Democrats!"
One can imagine that choosing this very time to return is an attempt by Weiner to capitalize on what seems like a more modern drift of the electorate.
Which is why Trump might want to heed this tweet from Devin Cole: "@realdonaldtrump it's gonna really bum you out when he's Mayor of NYC."
