AnnaKournikova virus; Macs not vulnerable

CNET staff
Several readers alerted us to a new email attachment virus. The infected file is named "AnnaKournikova.jpg.vbs." It self-propagates itself by sending copies of itself (via phony email with your name on it) to people in the address book of the Windows version of Outlook. However, once again, Mac versions of email software will not spread this virus. Some users report a crash when trying to open the vbs file on their Mac. When we tried to open a copy that we received, it just failed to open; no crash.

The McAfee web site has more details. It states: "When run, the script copies itself to the WINDOWS directory as AnnaKournikova.jpg.vbs. It attempts to mail a separate email message, using MAPI messaging, to all recipients in the Windows Address Book."
