And in other news: Unwanted data in Nav Services Prefs; Trojan horse rumor

Unwanted data in Navigation Services Prefs file An article posted to The Mac Observer noted that the Navigation Services Preferences file contained "unwanted data" (typically extraneous data from deleted files on your drive) in much the same way that was discovered for Microsoft Word documents previously. While this is hardly a serious security concern, it does raise questions as to why these files (and certain other Apple Prefs files, such as AMO Prefs) get so large over time, especially if (as in this case) the majority of the space is taken up by unneeded data.

Trojan horse rumor denied Several readers have sent me a copy of a Hotline posting which cites a supposed Apple Service Channel document stating that there is a Trojan Horse on the Mac OS X Server CDs. I have checked with a couple of my contacts at Apple and they assert that this is unequivocally false! The item is a hoax. I have no reason to doubt this. [Note: I hesitated to even post this item, for fear that it would only help spread a false rumor, but decided it was better to dispel this rumor than to ignore it.]
