RadioShack plans to start selling a bare-bones $299 computer designed by chipmaker AMD, the San Jose Mercury News reported on Friday.

Advanced Micro Devices originally touted its Personal Internet Communicator as a way for emerging nations to get more of their populations onto the Internet, but apparently the retailer sees a domestic market as well.

The machine uses the Windows CE operating system as well as AMD's Geode chip, the paper reported.
