Amazon developing TV show based on cult sci-fi flick 'Galaxy Quest'
Never give up, never surrender! A TV series based on the cult comedy film is reportedly in the works from Amazon Studios, with the original creators on-board.
Fingers crossed that the cast of the original "Galaxy Quest" movie returns for a TV version.
By Grabthar's hammer, "Galaxy Quest" fans will see their favorite sci-fi cinematic comedy as a new TV series on Amazon.
Amazon Studios and Paramount Television are in the early stages of development on a TV series based on the 1999 film that starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell, according to Entertainment Weekly. Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In the original "Galaxy Quest" movie, the cast of a "Star Trek" style television series is abducted by aliens who mistake the series for a documentary and think the TV stars are real space travelers. The details of the plot of the Amazon series have yet to be revealed.
It's also unknown whether the film's actors will reprise their roles. "Galaxy Quest" original co-writer Robert Gordon will both write the script and executive produce the TV pilot, Entertainment Weekly said, adding that the original film's director, Dean Parisot, will executive produce and direct and that Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein will serve as additional executive producers.
