Amazon debuts new literary fiction imprint

The giant Web retailer adds Little A, its seventh imprint, to its roster. Upcoming titles include a book by actor James Franco.

Continuing its push into creating original content, Amazon has launched a literary fiction imprint dubbed Little A.

The imprint falls under the ambitious publishing unit at the retail giant, Amazon Publishing, led by industry veteran Larry Kirshbaum. Little A will publish novels, memoirs, and story collections. The books distributed by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will be published under its New Harvest imprint with both Little A and New Harvest logos.

Little A's first title is "The Blue Book," a novel by Scottish author A.L. Kennedy, that debuted this week. Next week, Jake Arnott's "The House of Rumour," a science fiction spy thriller, will be released under the imprint. Other upcoming titles include Jenny Davidson's "The Magic Circle," Shawn Vestal' s "Godforsaken Idaho," and James Franco's "Actors Anonymous."

Amazon is also launching Day One, a digital-only series within Little A, focused on short stories from writers who haven't published books yet. Those titles will available in North America and in the United Kingdom.

Little A is Amazon's seventh imprint. According to a report in PaidContent, it will be led by senior editor Ed Park.
