The 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX has started shipping to people who preordered the tablet.

Amazon announced the news on Friday, saying customers who previously ordered the slate will soon have it on their doorsteps. Those looking to buy the tablet now, however, will need to wait: Amazon's page said the device won't ship on new orders until next week.

Amazon unveiled two brand-new Kindle Fire HDX tablets last month. Both devices come with a 2.2GHz quad-core processor and run the company's Android-based operating system, Fire OS 3.0. The 7-inch model costs $229, and the 8.9-inch model starts at $379.

Customers who preordered the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX have some more waiting to do. According to Amazon's site, that tablet won't ship until November 7.
