Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 (#3): caps lock problems; keys registering slowly; more

Key repeat rate settings may be to blame.

Caps Lock problems Some users are reporting instability to use Caps Lock after this keyboard firmware update. MacFixIt reader Jon Harris writes:

"I've just installed the update and now Caps Lock doesn't work."

Another reader, Mark Lewis, writes:

"After installing Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0, the caps lock indicator lamp is always dark. I've depressed the caps lock key while typing this and caps lock was not working at all."

This problem may be the result of another issue related to this update in which the key repeat rate is delayed or otherwise changed. In other words, the user may be pressing and releasing the Caps Lock key too fast. Try holding the Caps Lock key in for a few seconds and check for activation.

If Caps Lock can be invoked by holding the key for a longer period of time, try toggling key repeat rate settings in the Keyboard and Mouse pane of System Preferences.

As written by one reader:

"Since the latest keyboard update my keystrokes are really slow and my typing is faster than my keyboard, very annoying."

Startup command issues Some users have reported problems with system startup keyboard commands -- such as resetting NVRAM/PRAM -- after applying the Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update. One reader writes:

"I have also had an issue with the aluminum keyboard (wired) whereby I cannot zap the pram on my 20" intel iMac. Figured that was something others were experiencing, but no scuttlebut on that have I seen."

If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.
