Alternatives to ProcessViewer for quitting the Dock

CNET staff
Continuing our coverage of quitting/killing the Dock, readers point out alternatives to using ProcessViewer to do this.

AppleScript Brian Moore writes:

"Use AppleScript. The needed script (entered in Script Editor) should go as follows:

      tell app "Dock" to quit

That's it! If you save it as a Mac OS X applet you can use it to quit the Dock at any time; even better you could put it in the Dock for immediate access anytime." Or you could put it in the Scripts folder and access it from Script Runner.

DockRestarter Simone Manganelli suggests using DockRestarter 1.0.1. "Place it on the desktop or drop it in Favorites or even the Dock itself."

Update: Leland Jory suggests adding DockRestarter to the Finder's toolbar. "The problem with putting it in the Dock is, if the Dock is acting up, you can't access it."
