Alternative security locks for 17" PowerBook G4

Alternative security locks for 17" PowerBook G4

CNET staff

Yesterday we reported a minor body design problem with the newly shipping 17" PowerBook G4, which disallows the use of security cables such as those manufactured by Kensington.

We've since discovered some alternatives that adhere to the 17" PowerBook G4 more rigid size requirements:

Belkin Notebook Security Lock model K100 To use this model, loop the cable around any immovable object and attach the lock to the security slot. The K100 also includes Belkin's house-developed purportedly press-to-lock feature that makes installation easier.

Kensington SLIM MicroSaver (64020) This model has a T-bar locking mechanism and rubber bumper on the locking surface protects laptop surfaces from scratching or denting.

Notebook Guardian is protected by a chrome-plated zinc cable collar and black impact-resistant nylon bumper. The one-piece lock is attached to a 6-foot cable, which is sheathed in black PVC to 1/4-inch thickness.
