Alert! MacLinkPlus Deluxe v.10 problems; can cause ClarisWorks to crash

Brian Criscuolo (of DataViz) writes: "DataViz has had reports from users regarding problems after installing MacLinkPlus Deluxe (version 10). The symptoms have included crashes, loss of the contextual menu function of Mac OS 8.x and/or contextual menu problems in some applications.
  1. There appears to be a crash related to MacLinkPlus Deluxe when using the "Save As..." or "Open" functions in ClarisWorks 5 to save or open a file in another format with MacLinkPlus. ClarisWorks 5 uses Mac OS Easy Open to access translators which are licensed from DataViz, separate from the version 10 translators. We have been able to reproduce this and are currently looking into a solution. As a work around, we suggest using MacLinkPlus Deluxe to translate the file(s) and not the built-in capability of ClarisWorks 5. Note: If translating from ClarisWorks 5, you must first save as a ClarisWorks 4 document.

  2. The MacLinkPlus Deluxe installer incorrectly includes the "Contextual Menu Enabler" extension. The appears to cause trouble for some users. DataViz recommends any user of MacLinkPlus Deluxe disable the "Contextual Menu Enabler" extension via the Extensions Manager UNLESS they have previously installed Apple Internet Address Detectors 1.0.1. This extension is not required for the use of contextual menus in Mac OS 8.x or MacLinkPlus; however it is required for the functionality of Apple Internet Address Detectors 1.0.1. This extension will be removed from future MacLinkPlus Deluxe installers."
