Alan Tudyk is joining the Star Wars universe later this year as a droid that has been described as the opposite of C-3PO, and this includes the costume.

Tudyk plays K-2SO, otherwise referred to as Kaytoo. He brought the droid to life by wearing stilts designed by Industrial Light & Magic along with a motion capture suit, according to an interview published Monday on StarWars.com.

That sounds downright comfy when compared to the costume for C-3PO. Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO in the original Star Wars films, had to be literally screwed into the costume, Tudyk said.

Tudyk said he met Daniels at Star Wars Celebration Europe, and the legendary Star Wars actor had a colorful reaction to the motion capture news.

"He said, 'You [expletive]!' [Laughs] That was his response, because he was envious of the comfort level he knew I had wearing a Spandex body suit versus a practical costume, which by the way he still fits into," Tudyk said.

Tudyk also described the origins of his character. Kaytoo is originally an Imperial droid that gets his memory wiped by Cassian, played by Diego Luna.

"Through that process, Kaytoo's personality changes. I approached it as if he were freed, almost like a governor on an engine that holds the personality back," Tudyk said. "When he is reprogrammed, his personality comes out, which is a bit odd."

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is coming to theaters in Australia on December 15, then hits the US and UK on December 16.
