Aladdin has released StuffIt Expander 5.1.2 and DropStuff 5.1.2.

These updates fix several problems (as previously reported here; see a and b for example). In particular:

  • The DropStuff 5.1.2 update fixes a bug in the StuffIt Engine and Power Plug (in PowerPC machines only) that would make Expander 5.1 falsely report a MacBinary encoded StuffIt 3.x or 4.x file as a corrupted or invalid archive. With the Engine fix, Expander 5.1.2 now decodes MacBinary encoded StuffIt 3.x or 4.x StuffIt archives.
  • The StuffIt Expander 5.1.2 update fixes a bug whereby Expander would not expand a StuffIt archive when double clicked. Double clicking on an archive would launch DropStuff, if DropStuff was installed, or display a "StuffIt Deluxe could not be found" error message. Double clicking on an archive now calls StuffIt Expander 5.1.2 to expand and decode the file.
  • The StuffIt Expander 5.1.2 update also fixes a bug where Expander incompletely decoded a MacBinary encoded Zip file. Expander would decompress the file, but the user needed to use Expander a second time to de-MacBinary encode the file. StuffIt Expander 5.1.2 correctly expands and decodes MacBinary encoded Zip files.

SITPatch updated However, it apparently does not address the issue with Expander modifying Internet Preferences. In this regard, David's SITPatch (see item last time) has been updated to work with Expander 5.1.2.

Update: David's SITPatch 1.0.2 has been released. It fixes a bug where the patch would not function when DropStuff with Expander Enhancer was installed and registered but Stuffit Deluxe was not, or vice versa. Those who have successfully installed a previous version of the patch do not need this new version.
