There is an extremely simple fix to many issues (including poor throughput, inability to connect to Base station, AirTunes dropouts, double NAT errors and more) manifest after the AirPort Extreme Base Station 802.11n Firmware 7.1.1 update. Follow these two steps:

  1. Turn off your network access device (cable/DSL modem, etc.) to which the AirPort Extreme is connected and wait a few minutes then turn it back on.
  2. Renew your DHCP lease by opening the Network pane of System Preferences then clicking the TCP/IP tab and pressing the Renew DHCP Lease button. (you may need to first double-click your network connection method [AirPort, Ethernet, etc.])
