AirPort Extreme 2005-001 (#2): Greater than 1 GB of RAM AirPort connection drop issue fixed for some

It appears that the notorious bug where various iBooks and PowerBooks with more than 1 GB of active RAM spontaneously drop AirPort connections may be fixed for many users with the recently released AirPort Extreme 2005-001 update.

MacFixIt reader Bud Clark writes:

"I want to say I'm satisfied after a day of heavy WiFi use that Wednesday's AirPort update seems to have fixed the problem. My observations were the same symptoms that affected mid-2005 iBooks: cursor responsiveness, loss of network connection (and inability to 'see' any wireless nets), and an out-of-control kernel_task process consuming almost all CPU.

"Since the AirPort update, kernel_task has been well-behaved. I had observed kernel_task cycling up to huge CPU consumption even over a dial-up, and that seems to have been corrected too.

Another reader adds:

"Just another note from France to let you know that after applying 'Airport Update 2005-001' through Software Update, this problem seems to be fixed. I could successfully connect to WiFi network for 10 hours without noticeable problems, whereas my connection was lost every 2-3 hours before."
