Adobe Reader 6.0/Acrobat Professional 6.0: Slow printing, possible solution

CNET staff

We previously reported that some users upgrading to Adobe Reader 6.0 or Acrobat Professional 6.0 experienced degraded print performance.

The version 6.0 release seems to have a problem with multi-page, multi-copy documents. In some cases, it will send each page individually rather than send a multi-page document to the printer once and request several copies.

In other words, if you attempt to print 10 copies of a 30-page document, Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional will sometimes send 300 individual pages, resulting in an extremely long rendering and data transfer process.

Previously we noted that some users were able to resolve the issue by unchecking the "Collated" option in the Print dialog box, while others were still experiencing the problem after doing so.

It now appears that deleting Adobe Reader 6.0 or Acrobat Professional 6.0 .plist files can resolve the issue. Specifically, in the case of Reader 6.0, these two files (located in ~/Library/Preferences) should be discarded

  • com.adobe.Reader6.0.plist
  • com.adobe.Reader.plist

MacFixIt reader Patrick Dansette verifies "I had a problem printing on a Imac G4 1.25 17 inches, where using system 10.34, printing from Adobe reader 6.0 had become very slow (ten time slower than on a pismo 400 using the same system and software. The solution was to discard the preferences from Adobe reader. Printing came back to normal."
