Adobe posts support document on Creative Suite 2.0/QuickTime 7.1 conflict

CNET staff

Adobe has now posted a support document relaying findings published here on MacFixIt earlier this week.

As we previously noted, on systems where the QuickTime 7.1 update has been applied, the installation of Adobe Creative Suite 2.0 freezes at the end of the installation process on Intel-based Macintosh computers disallowing activation of Adobe Creative Suite after restarting your computer.

Our initial fixes included reversing the manual uninstall process offered by Adobe (i.e. place all listed components in the desired locations -- copying them from the installation disc -- rather than deleting them) or uninstalling the QuickTime 7.1 update altogether.

Apple later released QuickTime 7.1.1, which resolved this conflict. Hence the new, preferable solution is to startup in Safe Boot mode (hold the shift key while your system is starting up), applying the QuickTime 7.1.1 update, and then restart in normal mode.

As also mentioned previously on MacFixIt, the initial freeze occurs when installing Version Cue on disc 2, and when using a custom Install of Adobe Creative Suite and deselect Version Cue, the freeze occurs at the end of the installation process and activation files fail to install. QuickTime 7.1.1 resolves the Version Cue issue as well.
