Adobe files suit against MacNN

As noted on this law.com Web page, Adobe is suing MacNN for publishing information about the forthcoming Photoshop 6.0 and Adobe ImageReady 3.0 updates. Adobe alleges that the information, which was actually posted on AppleInsider (MacNN has a contract with AppleInsider to supply ads but does not own the site) came from confidential documents. Apparently, it was largely based on a "Detailed Feature Guide" sent to beta testers of the software. Monish Bhatia of MacNN contended: "That particular document was accessible in the public domain." In any case, Adobe asked MacNN to remove the article. When they did not do so immediately, Adobe filed suit. The AppleInsider home page now says: "Links Removed by the Demand of Adobe Legal." Perhaps, this now signals the end of the legal dispute (we have not received confirmation of this as yet). However, the articles were still accessible from AppleInsider's Web site as of this morning, but only if you know and directly enter their URLs (these too were removed late in the day today). The MWJ notes that MacUser UK and MacWEEK also ran articles based on this confidential Feature Guide - but Adobe did not file suit against them. Admittedly, the articles were far less detailed than what AppleInsider posted.
