Adobe application (InDesign, GoLive) screen redraw issues

We previously covered a series of Adobe application screen redraw issues initially associated with the Mac OS X 10.4.5 update.

It now appears that there is a more widespread problem affecting several Adobe applications under various iterations of Mac OS X 10.4.x. The most acutely affected appear to be Illustrator and GoLive.

MacFixIt reader Robert MacLeay writes:

"I have been seeing the screen redraw issue in GoLive CS (1) under 10.4.3.

"If, for instance, I have a paragraph set to 'centered' format and type a letter with a descender, (i.e., 'y'), as I continue to type, a 'smear' extends across the page as the letter is pushed sideways. The smear is not the full height of the letter, but only the bottom-most part. It is as though the screen redraw is lazy and redrawing only that part of the screen occupied by the more recently typed letters, which do not extend down so far."

MacFixIt reader Michael Machado writes:

"I have been experiencing the same type of screen redraw issues with nearly all Adobe apps, but it is not related to 10.4.5 as I am still on 10.4.4. The worst offender in my case is GoLive and this has been the case in both CS1 and CS2 and from 10.4.3 on. I only see this in the Adobe applications and it occurs on both my MDD Dual 1Ghz PowerMac and my 1Ghz 15" PowerBook so I can't attribute it to a specific video card."

Meanwhile, some readers continue to note that the problem only occurred after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.5.

Bill Schmidt writes:

"I've seen this as well. Didn't think much about it -- just shifted the view back and forth. Never saw it before 10.4.5. I work in In-Design most of the time."

As noted by Bill, a kludgy workaround for this issue is to shift views between alternating options, then back to the original view. This should temporarily eliminate the screen artifact.
