Adaptec's note on a potential directory corruption bug: a follow-up

CNET staff
Saturday's posting (now moved to our Troubleshooting Mac OS X report) on Adaptec's Mac OS X compatible beta driver for the PowerDomain 29160N included reference to an Adaptec "known issues" item describing a Mac OS 9 bug that can cause directory corruption if a volume "that had been initialized with a disk utility running in Mac OS 9.0.4 or earlier" is mounted in Mac OS X Public Beta and then back in Mac OS 9. We have previously reported on what may be the same issue, except that it is limited to HFS Standard partitions. Beyond that, we do not recall hearing anything about this potentially serious problem before. Adaptec's initial reply to us on this matter is that they had no further information about the problem. We continue to seek clarification.
