Adaptec 3940 conflict with G3/BW Macs confirmed by Adaptec

Last time, we mentioned a possible conflict with the Adaptec PowerDomain 3940UW card and the new G3/BW Macs. We have now received several confirmations of this. For example:

Volker Desinger writes that his G3/BW also would not start from the internal IDE drive after installing an Adaptec 3940 card. "You hear the start tone, see the grey desktop and then nothing more!" Adaptec tech support replied: "This is a known problem. We haven't updated the drivers for the 3940 on the new G3s yet. There are several complicating issues, mainly to do with the architecture of the card. We are determining whether this will be a hardware or software fix, and are several months from having a final answer at this point."

Jean Lejeune was told by Adaptec in Belgium that the problem was "due to Apple having changed its booting process" and that Adaptec was working on a firmware fix.
