Active Directory: Extremely slow mobile account login (#2)

Active Directory: Extremely slow mobile account login (#2)

CNET staff

We continue to report issues with abnormally slow login to Active Directory services when using mobile login (i.e. logging in from outside the network hosting the Active Directory services).

When users are outside an Active Directory network, they must use cached credentials (not services) because the user cannot authenticate to the unavailable Active Directory.

The problem occurs when a user has a network connection active (e.g. AirPort, Ethernet, etc.) and is attempting to login using cached credentials. When doing so, login takes anywhere from 2-10 minutes. Disconnecting any network connection (turning of AirPort, etc.) allows normal login.

MacFixIt reader Allen Creech writes:

"I am experiencing the same issue. I have a home user on a MacBook Pro that before leaving work must turn Airport off if she has any hope of logging into her computer while at home behind a wireless Linksys router. After logging in either connected via Ethernet or not connected at all she can (a) turn Airport on, (b) log out, (c) log in via wireless with no problems."

If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.
