Acer's Mac-like 13-inch Aspire 3935 arrives

The Aspire 3935 is a 13-inch laptop with a brushed metal chassis that's a little less than one-inch thick and a 16:9 widescreen LED display.

A mere week after we saw a truckload of new Acer and Gateway laptops at the company's New York showcase (well, it was technically in New Jersey...), the first of Acer's new offerings has arrived in our Labs.

It's a good one to start out with -- the Aspire 3935 is a 13-inch laptop with a brushed metal chassis that's a little less than one inch thick and has a 16:9 widescreen LED display. The system, like many of the upcoming Acer and Gateway laptops we've previewed, adds MacBook-like multitouch gestures to its touchpad.

Touchpad gestures add a Mac-like vibe.

Starting at $899, it looks like a potential good place to start for those looking for an upscale 13-inch laptop without paying MacBook prices.

In today's energy-conscious world, the 3935 claims excellent battery life -- but as we've noted before, manufacturer battery life claims need to taken with a grain of salt -- they're sometimes based on unrealistic usage models requiring you to turn the screen brightness way down or turn off features.

We'll test the Aspire's battery claims, and overall performance, in the CNET Labs, and report back with a full review.
