ABCNEWS.com announces layoffs

ABCNEWS.com told CNET News.com that less than 5 percent of its staff was laid off recently after a summer-long evaluation of the Internet news organization. "We reassigned some people and we realized some of our staff was not necessary going forward," said Katherine Dillon, vice president and general manager for ABCNEWS.com. Dillon said some of the employees have been offered positions at Starwave, ABC.com, and the new portal dubbed the Go Network. Shareholders are set to vote on that deal involving Disney, Infoseek, and Starwave Nov. 18.
