8th annual Apple design awards Apple will be holding its 8th annual design awards ceremony at the upcoming Worldwide Developer conference. Apple says the awards "recognize innovation, advanced Mac OS X look and feel, use of Apple technologies in our developers' Mac OS X-based products, and new, exciting, and high quality product entries to the Mac OS X market, including an all new Server Solution category." In addition to some hardware prizes, winners will receive a trophy and the right to use the associated prize logo to market their products. More.
AirPort at McDonald's, Hilton CNET reports that the list of companies teaming with Intel to help promote "hot spots" for wireless Internet access has grown by three: Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Borders Group and McDonald's. "The upsurge in Wi-Fi deals and alliances comes ahead of Intel's Wednesday launch of its Centrino wireless technology . The array of new chips and related products is designed to allow built-in wireless capabilities in notebook PCs. Centrino includes the Pentium-M processor, a chipset and a Wi-Fi module." More.
EU experts say Microsoft in violation Reuters reports that European Commission experts have concluded thatMicrosoft violated EU antitrust rules, but their proposed remedies need refining to withstand court scrutiny, sources familiar with the case said. "The experts have proposed two major requirements -- making Microsoft share more proprietary information with its rivals and uncoupling its Media Player audiovisual software from the ubiquitous Windows operating system, sources told Reuters."
