If you read our top five must-have apps for your N95, you'll have already seen our great love of the award winning JoikuSpot app. It seems we're not alone in our admiration.

At its simplest level, JoikuSpot turns your 3G mobile phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot. 3 Mobile will put the Joiku tool to work in what it's calling 3Spot, which will create a temporary hotspot that you can use to share your mobile broadband allowance with another Wi-Fi-enabled device, like a laptop or another smartphone. The software uses WEP encryption to protect your connection.

3Spot is available to selected Nokia handsets now for a once-off fee of AU$10 for customers who are signed up to a 3 X-Series data package. As with 3's recent email offering, the company is finding ways of charging its customers for what is otherwise free. JoikuSpot is a free download to Nokia S60 (3rd edition) handsets via the company's website and also offers a premium version that includes VPN access amongst other business-centric upgrades.
