Porsche brings the GTS badge to the Macan for the 2017 model year
As with other models, the Macan GTS adds a dash of performance and an aesthetic that focuses on blacked-out trim.
The 2017 Porsche Macan GTS, which just debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show, is the latest in Porsche's tradition of slapping a GTS badge on everything the automaker produces. The Macan is the last model in Porsche's lineup to receive the trim level, which typically sits just below the Turbo trim in terms of performance and cost.
The GTS package is, in essence, focused on two things: slight performance tweaks and an aggressive aesthetic upgrade. The new trim level uses the same 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged six-cylinder as the Macan S, but output is bumped up to 360 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Utilizing a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive, the Macan GTS will rocket to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds (with the optional Sport Chrono Package).
The Macan GTS rides on Porsche's air suspension, but the ride height is 10 millimeters (0.4 inches) lower than a Macan Turbo. To get all that metal to a stop, the brakes have been upgraded, as well -- its rotors measure 14.2 inches in front and 13 inches out back. Naturally, because it's sporty, the calipers are painted red.
The exterior aesthetic enhancements rely on the use of blacked-out or otherwise darkened elements. The window trim is now black, and both the lower body trim and door side blades are given a matte-black coat. The Macan GTS's 20-inch alloy wheels are painted satin black, and both its headlights and taillights are darker than the standard model's.
Inside, the use of red and black continue. The panels are swathed in Alcantara suede wherever leather doesn't already exist. There are standard sport seats with GTS logos, and an optional interior package will really take things to the extreme with a red tachometer, red deviated stitching and red seat belts.
Yet, despite an MSRP of $67,200 (£55,188 in the UK, AU$109,500 in Australia), the Macan GTS doesn't include all the technology that you think it might. Navigation remains optional, as does Porsche Connect, which includes Apple CarPlay connectivity. Buyers can also opt for 4G LTE hotspot capabilities, but that requires you to also buy the navigation system.
The 2017 Porsche Macan GTS arrives early next year for US, UK and Australian markets, but the order books are open right now. Initial 2016 delivery dates range from January (UK, Australia) to March (US).
