The three-bar grill has expanded beyond the frame of the headlamps and now dominates the front end of the vehicle. While the headlamps themselves shrink in size and become more aggressive and horizontal in orientation. The lower grill loses its horizontal bars to become a gaping maw.

Under the hood, the Fusion (and by association, the Mercury Milan) receives three powerplant options. The first is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that features fuel saving feature called Aggressive Deceleration Fuel Shut-off. Essentially, the system cuts fuel to the engine when the accelerator is lifted and resumes fuel flow when the accelerator is reapplied or low speed is reached. This isn't the same as the stop-start tech that we see in many cars, because it curiously only works when the vehicle is in motion.

A 3.0 liter V-6 fills the midrange while a 3.5-liter six-cylinder tops the range in the Fusion Sport model. The engines output 240 and 263 horsepower, respectively. All Fusions and Milans will be equipped with an all new six-speed automatic transmission, tuned to boost engine efficiency.

I'm not in love with the styling of the new Fusion, but it is an improvement over the outgoing model.
