Pros The NAS part works decent and had some decent speeds.
Cons Media streaming works well only with very small libraries (less that 1000 pictures/videos). Anything larger than that I found to be extremely buggy, constantly freezing, unable to scan media and needed a constant reboot.
Summary You get what you pay for, if you are just looking for a simple NAS that this is OK, but if you are looking for some additional features such as DLNA media streaming that this is not the right product. Maybe with future firmware updates this will be fixed but for now its not the way to go.
Pros It is a nice idea.
Cons Breaks with normal use,
before it breaks write speed is very slow,
streaming over the internet only works sometimes
Summary I bought this with high hopes. It died with normal use. Customer service gave me the run around and was overall terrible but after a month or so I got a replacement. It took twice as long to get the replacement then the thing worked for. Was still hopeful upon getting the second one, sometimes you get a lemon, but the second one also broke after two weeks. I have already started talking to customer service and they are already giving me the run around.
Save yourself lots of pain and just don't buy this.
Pros Easy to install and user friendly. It was nice to access my files from anywhere in the house.
Cons I bought the 3TB and the drive failed to communicate within a month and it will cost an arm and a leg to recover the data if you don't have it backed up on other drives.
Did not work with my windows 8 phone.
Summary I bought this drive because I had my Seagate external drive for my laptop sitting on the floor when my house flooded, thought I lost a lot of files and I wasn't going to let that happen again. However the drive I thought I lost, recoverd once it dried out. For once I thought I would give Western Digital a chance and they failed.
Pros 4 TB at a reasonable price... if only you could use it.
Cons This drive takes to long to back up on Time Machine.
This drive only works via your network, through your router or your computer using an ethernet (CAT 5 or 6) cable.
Tech support is weak at best.
Summary I can only write about this as a Mac user. Also, I got a super price of $148.00 (for the 4 TB drive) from Best Buy on this.
Great concept, but inadequate in execution.
The problem is that you can only connect this drive to your computer via the ethernet.
What good is any drive, if it takes forever to run a back up, forever for your computer to copy files to and forever your finder to recognize it
I have two high speed SSD internal drives, each with a different OS and it appears that the WD MyCloud drive software won't create a separate Time Machine backup folder for each system.
And the initial Time Machine back up (which took 6 hours with a SATA internal drive) took a 18 hours for less than 500 GB.
On my portable fire wire drive, it took less than an hour to copy my iTunes folder.
Copying my iTunes music folder to the WD MyCloud took almost 4 hours.
I can't even imagine how much time it will take to try to retrieve files over the internet from this drive.
When I contacted tech support about the slow transfer speed, they first wanted to make sure that I had connected it to my gigabit switch, which I confirmed. Then after a brief hold on the phone, I was told to connect the WD MyCloud directly to my computer when ever I was going to perform a backup.
I told the tech, that my computer automatically backs up once every hour.
After being put on hold again, I was then told to keep it connected to my gigabit switch.
Neither the WD tech nor the Apple tech could explain why the Time Machine in each drive wasn't creating a separate backup folder and Sparse Disk Image Bundle, but instead is using the same folder and sparse image.
As it can take up to 6 or 7 minutes for the Finder to recognize the drive and I can only think that the drive's software is causing these problems.
Bottom line, I'm returning this.

Summary: It's better to have an internal 2 TB drive for $150.00 that you don't have to think about because it doesn't put a leash on your time, than $150.00 for a 4 TB drive that won't live up to it's promise.
Pros cant connect via usb.cant connect via LAN unless LAN has internet access.java web front end fails on chrome/win7x64 . Support poor.tried to ring helpline printed on the box for europe - didnt work.other helpline closed early. Avoid at all costs!!!!
Cons A serious let down for wdc. Ive used their disk and external drives (essta, usb, mybackup)for years without much hassle. They were all good.Even their external tv media player was ok. This product falls way short. Avoid at all costs.
