  • "Impossible to properly setup, terrible design"
    on by noreg

Pros None that I can find

Cons Hopeless web page for setup, and no setup instructions that make ANY sense. This thing was shipped before it was done, and the company decided to use a shareware server product that has never been fully debugged.
DLNA fails every time - their is no way o

Summary Worthless. I cannot return this POS< so I will open it up, extract the hard drive and dump the useless enclosure. Verbatim should be sued for foisting such a worthless pile of junk on customers. I will never buy anything from them again.

  • "Works fine for what it is."
    on by hc2255

Pros Installation problem easily fixed by calling product support. Easily attaches to router and network. The subscription is only $20 per year. Free Hipserv App for the iPhone/iPad and Android. Quiet. Plenty of USB connections for additional storage.

Cons Flash interface -- ugh! Give me the folders/subfolders interface I've been using for 20 years.

Summary I paid about $125 for this. It works fine if you really want to stream your music and photos to whomever. The free Hipserv app easily connects it to your phones or tablets. I paid the $20 subscription just to see what it does and, by the way, I have $20.

I'm not really into all that media streaming and just wanted to create my own cloud server to back up my computer rather than send it off to the strangers who run Carbonite. I haven't figured out how to do that with this device and haven't turned it on in months.

I had the exact opposite experience with the Iomega drive that someone mentioned. Although it was beautiful gun-metal black, it wanted me to do some kind of manual port forwarding that I don't remember how to accomplish. If my slingbox could figure that out 5 years ago I don't know why Iomega needs me to figure out how to do it manually in 2011.

  • "Useless junk"
    on by richamon

    Pros It looks good.

Cons Having to accept a security popup every time you start vista/win7 pc to get connected.
Having to pay a subscription fee for more than 3 user accounts/computers is totally stupid!!!!!
Why should I have to an extra fee to use all the features of something I

Summary All in all it was a waste of money. I will avoid Verbatim products in the future.

  • "PATHETIC customer service"
    on by kianr

Pros None, as I have not gotten to use it yet!!!

Cons I have owned the Verbatim 1TB Mediashare for over a month now, and thanks to Verbatim's DREADFUL customer service, have not used it yet. In this period I have called their customer service center numerous times and have not received a single call back. I

Summary Buy at your own Risk!!!!

  • "Great all around NAS for home"
    on by xiangfoss

Pros Excellent hardware specs: 1.2 CPU, 256 MB RAM, 256 internal flash. Plethora of external storage expansion options. Fast download/upload speed. Super quiet and ascetically pleasing. Embedded Linux system. Low power consumption. Plenty of options for media

Cons Web interface is not as sophisticated as other systems.
    No printed manual.

Summary This is great for 24/7 home media sharing and network storage. It can really replace a PC or bulky NAS due to such low power consumption and low noise levels. No problem setting up the unit and runs flawlessly. The latest firmware is very stable (I think previous reviews may reflect an older buggy firmware).
