Pros ??? Can't say. I could never get it to do anything.
Cons No instructions. No support. Their website is ridiculous. Troubleshooting section is very basic and does not help at all.
Summary Save your good earned money for something else, unless you wanna be cursing at the stoooopid software that tells you; click "Start Back Up" to begin and the only thing you can click on says "Pause Backup" .... ?????
If I had to go through all this frustration just to make a Backup, I don't want to even want to think about how it would be if my computer crashed and I had to restore it.
Can't trust this product.
Pros This device holds a lot of data and has the ability to enable access from remote locations.
Cons Where do I start, It's over complex, It gone a bit MS and forces you do things there way. You can only have one in your network due to a hardcoded name. I hate that I have to have a password on it. This should be my choice
Summary A solid disk let down by over complex software built into it that means you can only use it as envisage by seagate not the end user. some of these features are great I imagine, but I just wanted a simple NAS to store data within my home network. If I could return it I would as I have a WD version as well that has a lot of the same features but you can just turn them off.
Pros No software required. Accessible via SMB on LAN and by HTTP and FTP over the Internet. Can be used as a USB print server, or to host a second external USB hard drive. Gigabit LAN.
Cons Setup is not intuitive. I didn't use the included CD so not sure what it does, but software-free setup required first finding the IP# (using my router utility), then entering it in Web browser, then configuring via so-so interface. Cannot be connected via
Summary End users with network configuration experience will love this device as much as I do. May not be the best choice for a networking novice. I'm not a hard-core Linux user, but this device looks like its basically a Linux based server, with the OS embedded on a chip in the network housing.
Pros Looks nice, quiet, and stores a lot of information
Cons Can not get it to do any of its potential. Can not even find simple things such as a unique identifier on the idem itself to log onto pogoplug. This is ridiculous ....
Summary Looks great, but does not do what I brought it for. I was looking for a NAS so I could access it away from home. Can not do. . This just turned out to be a big back up storage device, which I could have brought cheaper if that was all I wanted. By the way, my computer would not recognize the device at all during set up. As there is NO tech support, I had to go on line to find the solution Seem there is a reset on the device that will fix a lot of problems that is never mentioned in the set up. Thanks Seagate
Pros - Works with iTunes
- Has an established drive letter on your PC, so your programs always see it as a drive.
- Runs quietly and doesn't run too hot.
Cons - Utterly ridiculous lack of instructions. I can't figure out how to do all the things it's product page claims (ie: access the drive from outside your home on other PCs.)
- Slower than a regular USB drive.
Summary I do like that this works with iTunes, which is nice. I wanted all my music on this thing and it works just fine. Installation was a pain, because the CD that came with my drive was chipped. You can't just download the drivers: I had to contact Seagate, who gave me a link and a password to download an .iso file that I had to burn to a DVD. I mean - if I didn't know how to do that - I would be one upset customer. When all was said and done, yes, my PC recognizes this drive and after loading all my music to it, it works with iTunes. But the product page on amazon claims you can access this thing from your phone - no idea how since there's no instructions whatsoever on how to do this. (I have an HTC Droid Incredible). It also claims you can access the drive from outside the home - again - absolutely no instructions. Their website and support is horrible. I've been on their site for 1/2 hour now and I can't find a single simple document or user manual explain how to use this thing. Frustrating beyond belief.
