"Awful Product"on by NickParkerSA
Pros Give you a lot of space
Cons Entire devices freezes regularly
GUI is slow and unfriendly
No USB connection
Network throughput is slow
Summary I have 2 of these devices and they both freeze regularly - Seagate support's solution was to plug it in via USB - which it doesn't have. Not impressed.
Pros The only good thing about this product is that it lets you store lots of data that it then destroys.
Cons Lost my data twice -- and not because of HDD crashes. Instead the controller board corrupted the HDD twice and both times Seagate customer service wanted to charge thousands of dollars to recover the data their hardware corrupted. I will NEVER buy a Seaga
Summary The quality of the product is the worst I've ever seen - and this is especially true when you consider this is supposed to keep your data safe. I understand HDD can crash - but never heard of RAID controller boards failing and corrupting the data. The whole reason for RAID is to protect from HDD crashes. It is worthless if the controller firmware is buggy. And then customer service says the only way to restore my data (which they say is still on the disk) is to pay them $3-5000 is crazy. It is their fault, they can get to the data, but I have to pay. And this is after taking it up the management chain. I will NEVER buy a Seagate product again.
Pros It looks nice.
Cons Had to replace it once already since I couldn't read any of my data from it anymore.
The unit always says the fan has failed but it hasn't.
After rebooting the GUI is responsive. 5 minutes later it starts to laaaaag.
Summary I would love to explain all the problems I've had with this unit but CNET will probably be deleting this post like they did my last review of this product so I won't bother. You shouldn't bother buying this NAS either. It is horrible.
