Pros Nice design, ease to setup, could have great possibilities, but...(see "cons")
Cons Performance is extremely poor, several tests revealed a max throughput of 3.2Mb/sec
Summary This product could rock big times, setting up is a breeze. Took longer to unpack it than to install . Where the s... hits the perverbial fan, is when you use it...small files are fine, but try to perform any kind of serious backups or file transfers, better get a fresh pot of coffee and a clean change of clothes ready...my tests revealed a max throughput between 2.8 and 3.2 Mb/sec. Either shop for a different product or hope Linksys addresses this problem with a firmware upgrade of some sort...
I'll give it a 5:
- 10 for ease of use and setup and features,
- 0 for performance
Pros Easy setup, dual HD enclosure, 10/100 ethernet, USB bridging, status lights
Cons Horrendously slow transfer rates, poor performance
Summary I purchased this about a month ago and I've been sorely disappointed in it. I work for a major NAS/SAN company here in Silicon Valley and I must say this is nothing more that a dual-HD enclosure for backups. It's not fast enough to be primary storage and forget about streaming video or music from it...even in Raid-0, it is still very slow.
However, if you have a pair of HDs laying around and you need an enclosure with some basic CIFS/NFS software. This might do. I use is primary for media backups and have to copy the data back to the primary system whenever I want to use the data.
The Linksys software was easy to setup and has a tool that searches for the device and allows you to map drives to the various folders on the networked storage. There is also a one-touch backup button on the front. Installing the harddrives into the enclosure was easy and the software configuration disk made the setup painless. I was able to get both drives in and get some shares on the mirrored volumes in under five minutes.
Pros Has UPNP and TwonkyVision built-in
Cons slow data transfer rate
Summary I bought this unit to store my digital data; music, photos and movies and share it via UPNP media server to the Netgear DSM-520. Works like a charm. It's slow to put the data into the drive, but it seems fast enough for the media extender. There's faster ones available, but for more money, this one does the trick for me.
Pros A good idea but...
Cons Extremely slow for any imaginable use... and sometimes crash.
Summary Slow... S-l-o-w... S--l--o--w... S---l---o---w... s l o w l y............
"Not reliable."on by jgieger
Pros Price, but you pay for what you get.
Cons I have had Cisco replace this unit 5 times over the past 10 months. It is not reliable, slow, and it will crash.
Tech support is slow.
Summary The replacement units were under warranty. They were all refurbushied units. I have had to pay for return shipping on units. Now unit is out of warranty due to date of purchase of the orginial unit and I'm still without a working unit.
