Pros I have nothing positive to say about this garbage, throw-away equipment (300GB LaCie ETHERNET DISK MINI 10/100 US ), the company or their illusory facade which they call tech support.
Cons The WORST choice for network hard drive which suddenly failed, without ANY warning. LaCie provides ABSOLUTELY NO RECOVERY SUPPORT. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER LACIE product - ever!
Summary Purchased this hardware to be a common network drive and provide PC backups. Shame on me for buying this piece of unreliable garbage from an unreliable, untrustworthy company.
Drive purchased 2/2007 (manufactured 9/2006), failed without warning, 12/3/2010.
This is what LaCie said:
"This unit was manufactured in September of 2006. The average lifespan for any hard drive is generally 3-5 years."
"Depending on what is wrong with the drive, parts may be salvageable. The drive on the inside of the case, has an IDE connection. We are unable to assist with any of this, but if the mechanism is still good, it may be installed elsewhere-either in a tower computer that can support being expanded with another internal IDE drive, or inside a new empty case, from a vendor that specializes in selling empty enclosures. LaCie does not sell or distribute empty drive enclosures."
