I was setting up my VMware lab and was impressed with the price of the StorCenter px4-300d. The NAS server was not populated with hard drives, this was the only inconvenience otherwise the px4-300d is great. I chose from the officially supported hard drives Hitachi Deskstar 3TB drives. I was concerned about data security and hence opted for RAID 10. After configuring for RAID 10 the left over space of around 6TB was good for my storage purpose.
Installation process was a piece of cake and the device upgraded to the latest firmware once I connected to the internet, the backup was fast. I would suggest 3TB drives instead of 2TB ones because for not much of cost difference you can get 50% extra storage space and there will not be any requirement to upgrade the drives in the near future.
