Summary I have had my laptop 2 years in May, 2011. I have had to send it back for factory repairs on the cooling system once in the first year and now I am having the same problem again. I am now out of warranty and Toshiba won't fix it free, even though they were supposed to fix it before. I was told the repair was only under warranty for 30 days. If I take it and pay for repairs, how many more times will the same problem occur?
Pros Windows 7, Portable, Light, Runs Ubuntu Well
Cons Rip-Off, HOT, Over-Priced, Low-Powered, Low Battery Life, Slow Charging, Low Quality, RECALLED, actually leaves burn marks in my skin. More in Summary...
Summary I was at Best Buy looking for a laptop, I wanted a cheap one, but I saw this one and wanted it.
A week later it got recalled, you have no idea how ticked off I was.
I got it because it said it had 6-hour battery life, nice spacey hard drive, good ram, dual-core (most laptops have this).
I went home and found out it gets really hot, and burned my skin. Toshiba won't offer a replacement for me, even when this gives me physical pain.
The quality is VERY cheap. My charger snapped, and almost started a fire in my house. I had to buy a new third party one. The little rubbers on the bottom are falling off, the screen is wobbly, it actually creaks when too much pressure is applied, keys tilted at a weird angle, paint chipping on bottom, fingerprints everywhere.
This will get you: Toshiba's original charger contained lead. Enough that in their user manual they warned everyone about effects of lead, and told us to wash our hands after handling the charger. What the heck? This company needs to be sued.
Performance is decent, but I do find myself running Ubuntu sometimes because of performance. The video card isn't very good...
About the battery: I'm lucky to get a hour and a half on power-saving power mode.
I don't want to be burned, using a recalled product doesn't make me feel safe, quality is terrible, I was lied to.
I really want a refund, this is a unsafe product. Toshiba should be sued just based over this product. It sucks.
Pros Lots faster than net books the screen is very nice CLEAR! Boot up pretty quick after you take the junk they put on it! HDMI OUT! 3 usb plugs, SD Slot 720p LED LCD screen
Cons no optical drive but they sell those for $35 through the usb!
Summary I've only had it for a short time but I love it ! It's easy to type on. I Have had no other issues with it, saved money from buy Google TV with the HDMI out put you can surf the web on any TV with an HDMI input plug!
Pros Lightweight, great battery life, very responsive system, runs cool
Cons Too much Bloatware installed initially, Not configured for optimum battery life out of the gate without sacrificing performance
SummarySorry for some reason the summary was left out. Ok Great little machine for what it was intended for. Heavy internet use, word processing and videos. It is not a gaming or studio sound machine. The IE problem is a simple fix that does not require a driver re-install, only turning off the ATI hotkey poller service in services.msc. Then restart and flickering is gone. Machine runs cool. Mouse pad stinks but no laptop at this price range has the greatest mouse/trackpad. I use an external always. I get around 7hrs of battery in Win7 and about 6hrs in Linux. Also the bloatware can all be un-installed and the machine can be configured properly to give what I consider a very responsive and cool little machine. That's why I only gave it 4 stars because I spent an hour configuring the thing.
