  • "Budget Laptop that gives you what you pay for."
    on by Sofresh23

    Pros Budget priced laptop

Cons mediocre hard drive space, HORRIBLE BATTERY LIFE, over-heating problem

Summary I owned this laptop for less than two years and it has give me more trouble than it's worth. The first thing I noticed about the laptop is the absolute horrid battery life. The battery does not even last an hour for mine which definitely you want to have the AC adapter very close by. Secondly, the laptop constantly overheated and shut itself down continuously for now apparant reason until eventually it recently gave out completely after less than two years. Rather than try to get an expensive repair I decided to go ahead and purchase a new, better laptop.

Pros Small, Portable, Widescreen, Solid, Wireless, Reliable,

Cons Battery life of 2 hours, gets a little slow when multitasking.

Summary I have used computers for over 2 decades. 2 months ago, I got this computer for 399$ from best buy. Wow. 399$ well spent. The computer is not top of the line, cant do complex gaming on this computer but this is a perfect laptop for budget minded individual. Let see:
    1. Internet: Has built in wifi. Connects instantly and is great for browsing, online music, news, videos. Very satisfied.
    2. Office: I am using MS Word, powerpoint, excel without any problem or glitch. Very satisfied
    3. Vista: Comes with a coupon from Toshiba for free vista upgrade. Is vista capable. Will upgrade as soon as Vista arrives.
    4. Keyboard: Nice, Normal size, all keys in the right place. I bought optional keyboard protector from Toshiba, 20$ value, great investment.
    5. Multimedia: Has built in speakers. Good sound quality. Can pay dvd without turning on the computer.
    6. Processing Power: This is a newer celeron processor. Multitasking can become a little slow. But for normal office use its perfect. Faster then my older Pentium 4 2.0 processor.
7: Weight: Great for a low price laptop. Light but not very thin
    8. Battery life: hmm, biggest weakness. around two hours. Can be adjusted to above 2 hours by settings. Still a less then other laptops.
    9. Price/Performance: Great

  • "A great laptop from'06 still running fine 5years later."
    on by edgyswingsetacid

Pros Original battery lasted close to five years; it died on me one day early in 2011, and using my Dell inspiron, I easily purchased a new battery for M115-S1061 for less than $30.00 USD.
Original AC adapter still delivering an adequate charge!

Cons Other than a period of mechanisms working very slowly due to low memory, this laptop has not caused me any problems.

Summary If you ever come across one for free or dirt cheap, take up the offer because this computer model is wonderful and since it's outdated, parts for it such as a battery, ac adapter, or memory can be found at cheap to reasonable prices.

Computer mechanics still working well. Never have I had to uninstall and reinstall the OS. Original virtual memory lasted over 4 years, but was upgraded to the maximum of 2GB once VM became too low. After all the extensive use this computer has gone through, I'm impressed it still runs so smoothly!

  • "It's a great laptop after you upgrade it!!!"
    on by letmepicyou

Pros I got this for free. It had the "spontaneous password" problem which I fixed. Once again, for free. It was easily upgradable, and the only thing I had to buy was a new hard drive.

Cons I had to buy a new hard drive for it. Old one was 80 gig, my MP3 collection alone would swallow that. But that's not entirely a con, the new hard drive was boat loads faster, as I went 7200rpm.

Summary Got this lappy for free, guy didn't want to pay to fix it. Old celeron and wee ram and hard drive, I groaned but took it. Lo and behold I have a Core Duo (I think it was a T2250 but can't recall) mobile cpu sittin in my cupboard. And lo and behold, it's a drop in upgrade. So I look in my "bag of ram" and find a few 512 sticks of DDR2 SODIMM. Good to go there, so I said why not and picked up a brand new 500gb SATA 7200rpm drive for it. Now that it's all back together, this laptop with a core duo, ample ram, and a big fast hard drive ROCKS. It is quicker than greased lightning for what I spent, which is less than $100. Pick yourself up one of these if you got mobile cpus lyin about like I do. You may find a great laptop on the cheap.

  • "Best laptop I've purchased!"
    on by omni_blue

Pros This laptop has lasted forever and it still has legs to stand on.

Cons Battery was pretty much dead after a year.

Summary I purchased two of these laptops almost 6 years ago (one for my wife), and both laptops are still running great. Only problem I have is both batteries are dead and are WAY too expensive to replace. I've owned many laptops before (Dell, HP, etc.) and they pretty much die within 1-2 years. My next purchase will definitely be another Toshiba, but these two laptops still have a lot of life left in them.
