Pros Excellent Value for the Price
Cons No Bluetooth
Summary "this laptop's also got Bluetooth"
You, like every other reviewer of this computer on the Internet, have provided false information. This laptop does not come with Bluetooth, as can be clearly seen in the spec sheet.
I purchased this computer, largely off the reviews on the Internet, as I use Bluetooth a lot. Unfortunately I did not check with the manufacturer but only went off your review here and others, and my Satellite E-305 S1990X does not have Bluetooth (nor do any Satellite E-305 S1990X computers have Bluetooth).
Could you attempt to be accurate in your reviews from now on? People are counting on your research.
Pros Pretty and it comes with Intel WiDi
Cons Shuts down spontaneously
Terrible customer service - I sent twice to be repaired under warranty and they sent back with the very same problem
Summary I bought this Satellite E305 on August, 2011. Since the first days of usage, I noticed that the computer would shut down spontaneously. After studying the problem a little more, I figured out that those shutdowns only happened when the computer was coming from either a hibernation or sleep modes.
So, I decided to call Toshiba's customer service. The first "repair" performed by them was to reconfigure the computer BIOS. It didn't work. I called them again and at this time they suggested to reinstall Windows and set the computer to factory settings. After backing up all my stuff, I performed what was suggested along with a customer service representative support through the phone. It didn't solve the problem again.
I called them again. At this time, they asked me to send the computer to a Service Depot to be repaired by "specialists". Although that would cause me trouble, since I would be able to use the computer at work for at least 20 days, I agreed to send the computer and pay the $25 in shipping expenses. 20 days later, for my surprise, the computer arrived with a note in its box mentioning that no problem was found and, therefore, no repair was performed. Despite the long description of the problem and several ways to get in touch with me (maybe to further clarify the computer's issue), Toshiba incredibly sent the computer back to me basically stating that their consumer (me!) was lying to them. That's outrageous!
I called customer service again. After many apologies they asked me to send the computer again to Toshiba's service Depot, assuring me that this time the computer would be repaired. I asked them to at least pay for the shipping costs since they were responsible for that additional mistake. Impressively, that was denied. I agreed to pay those expenses again and send the computer on more time to be repaired. 20 days later (at this time not surprinsed anymore, after the bad experiences I had so far), the computer was returned with the very same problem again. To make it even worse, the note that came in its box mentioned that the Windows was reinstalled and that would have solved the problem. How come they do the exact same "repair" that was done previously (remember that the Windows had been reinstalled before and it didn't work!) and expect that it would be effective? Only Toshiba can explain such a terrible customer service like this.
I used to work in for a manufacturing company and know that quality issues might happen and deffective units might be produced and sent to customers. What I don't accept is to be treated like this.
I didn't decide yet what I'm going to do with this useless laptop. But what I can be sure is that I will never buy a Toshiba again and will do my best to let people know how bad Toshiba's customer service is so people can make more conscious purchase decisions. If you don't want to experience such bad customer service don't waste your time, money, and patience with a Toshiba. Try to find some other computer manufacturer.
Pros Backlit, well separated keyboard.
Good battery life.
Not a MacBook pro, but handsome design nonetheless.
Turboboost for even more speed.
Cons Windows 7, but maybe worth wait for Windows 8.
Slightly funky trackpad.
Bloatware, but not as bad as others.
Summary Experienced none of the problems with keyboard others have. Does virtually everything above average, none outstanding. Suffers from inferior Windows 7 OS ( icons and implementation of programs are still clunky compared to leopard or lion) but every pc does, (Windows 8 coming along mighht be worth the wait to upgrade fom what I've seen). Get much more than four hours even with net running with eco on. Again, screen resolution and clarity above average, but does not blow you away. Nice 7200 rpm, 500 gig hard drive, standard. Trackpad big and sensitive, though touchplate gives you a more rugged deckplate feel. Certainly not as seemless as Mac touchpads, but again better than many pc laptops, certainly ones with big goofy buttons. Blu-Ray, HDMI, 3.0 port all a plus. As pc laptops go, this one does not necessarily wow u at first sight, but grows on you, especially for what you get for the price. And that may be the more important factor in the end.
Pros Lightweight, fast, attractive skin.
Cons (1) Function keys poorly designed if you're accustomed to using F2, F8, etc for programs like Excel, Word, etc. The Fn keys default to the various options like screen brightness or video montior, when and thus you have to hit Fn + the function key to get
Summary I think this machine is poorly designed for anyone hoping to use this machine for producing work product. I can excuse the broken touchpad as a rare factory mistake, but combine that with poor design and I don't recommend this product.
"Meets my needs!"on by jspalding
Pros 1. Great Keyboard!
2. Plenty of power for my needs!
3. Love the Blue Ray Player!
4. Love Internet Wireless capability that hooks up to TV!
5. 7200 rpm DD is great! 500 MB is plenty for my needs!
Cons 1. Screen could be better!
2. Battery doesn't last as long as reviews indicated, but still OK.
Summary Over all I am very happy with my purchase. I'm not a gamer but for my needs I find this to be a very fast & powerful laptop. Size is just perfect for me to carry around. I really love the ability to play Blue Ray DVD movies on it when I'm on a plane or in an airport. I love to be able to hook it wirelessly up to my projector/or big screen TV to watch Netflix movies. It works great for that.
As someone else mentioned, the screen seems to have a narrow viewing angle compared to my larger laptop, but still more than meets my needs. It would have been nice to have had a dedicated graphics card included in the package but the ability to hook it up to an external monitor or TV overcomes that weakness.
My battery doesn't last as long as the reviews indicated, but I was still able to watch 2 two hour + movies w/o a problem. The size & speed of the HD is perfect for my needs. It is a huge improvement on the 5400 rpm drives on my old laptop.
Despite what some of the other reviewers said about this unit, I am very, very happy with my purchase. I have no problem recommending this unit to anyone considering a mid=level highly portable laptop. Anyone but dedicated gamers should be very happy with it.
