  • "It is fast, but has tons of design flaws."
    on by taconerd90

Pros The speakers are amazing for a laptop. It looks pretty. It's relatively fast.

Cons Touchpad gets insanely hot. Webcam stopped working. Volume wheel is awful. The paint chips off on the click buttons. Wireless connection is glitchy. The USB ports are loose so cables are always slipping out whenever you move at all. Battery is dead.

Summary A deeper description of the cons (10 reasons to not buy):

    1. Whatever it is in a laptop that heats up was poorly placed directly under the touchpad. So after about 20 minutes of use, the touch pad is about 120°F and your finger feels like fire. I had to buy a wireless mouse: $50. 2. The bezel around the screen is not very rigid and the back plastic is very flimsy so my screen ended up cracking from carrying the laptop around in my backpack. Replacement screen: $100. 3. After two years, the webcam quit working completely. The computer doesn't even recognize that it has a webcam. New webcam: $40. 4. The volume wheel is highly inaccurate. Sometimes I scroll it 3-4 times all the way and the volume goes up 1dB. Other times I scroll it 1/2 time around and the volume goes from nothing to blaring loud. 5. The paint is half gone on the click buttons- looks terrible. 6. Memory cards have never worked. Period. 7. If I had a penny for every time I had to restart the computer because it said it couldn't find any wireless networks even though there were multiple networks and the switch was "On", then I could retire. 8. The USB ports are just not the right size. To fix this, I got a USB hub and taped it into my computer, and now I just use the ports on the USB hub. USB hub: $15. 9. After 2 years of declining battery life, it is now down to.. wait for it... 4 minutes. Wow. So basically it is always plugged in. New Battery I'm about to order: $80. 10. The lit up play/pause/back/forward/mute buttons across the top of the keyboard are very, very laggy. Sometimes when you hit the mute button it takes as long as 10 seconds for the music to shut off.

So as you can see, I ended up spending about 300 extra dollars on this computer and it's still a nightmare. Don't buy it.

  • "Well worth the money, best laptop for the price"
    on by scoobitronic

Pros Very fast, great display, 320Gb HD, 4Gb RAM, 64-Bit Vista, very sleek look, above average battery life, firewire port, HDMI port, S-Video port and 4 USB 2.0 ports and dedicated video memory (512kb ATI Radeon)

Cons Glossy paint job is a fingerprint magnet, palm area of keyboard gets a little warm

Summary Overall, I love this laptop. I am very glad I decided to get it over the HP 1235dx. The 64-bit Vista is smokin' fast. The dedicated ATI video really helps this laptop's performance with graphics and video. There doesn't seem to be as much bloatware on this machine as others, and I was able to remove all that I didn't want in an hour or so. This machine really is fast, and has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it. I would recommend this laptop to everyone without hesitation. It's a Best Buy exclusive, and they put it on sale every now and then, which is even a better deal. The HD display on this thing is amazing. Watching videos on Hulu is like watching them on my DLP tv (only smaller). There is sufficient hard drive space for a laptop in this price range, and the 4Gb or RAM will handle most anything. Having the card reader up front is nice, and the 9 cell battery gives approx. 3.5 hours of use on the "power saver" mode. I am getting about 3 hours on the "balanced" mode.

The only negatives I've found so far are the fingerprint issue and the fact that, after about half an hour of use, the areas under the keyboard where you put your palms (either side of the touchpad) get pretty warm. It doesn't apper to hinder the performance, and the machine is very well ventilated. It's just mildly annoying.

I would definitely purchase this laptop again, if I had it to do over again. Toshiba really hit the mark with this machine, and the price is right, too. Go get one today!

  • "wifi conection problems. anythingels is worth."
    on by alaokle

Pros It is fast. The processor make him a good competition. very good sound (speakers). the ati video card is very good (512mb).

Cons with time i got some problems with wi-fi conection. it is really no so good. i prefer to buy some network-card on my own.

  • "Bang for your Buck"
    on by vicker88

Pros I got my Toshiba Satellite A305 6916 for just under $700 a year ago and with all of it's features in the first year of use its served well. With the ESATA combo USB Charge sleep Port coming in very handy as well as powerful Harman/Kardon speakers.

Cons It comes with a out-dated 56k modem, the placement on headphone jack and volume controls could have been placed better. Collects dust quicky on fan should use canned air to clean once bi-monthly, and no built in bluetooth.

Summary Overall I've had my Toshiba for a year with no problems due to the PC. only standard Vista 64 problems such as programs no responding. I quickly reduced my HDD to 150Gb and it seems to stay at around that. minor problem with it over heating and shutting down automatically to prevent damage so fan must be cleaned regularly. It has short battery life averaging 2hours max. I loved the built in Web Cam although the built in mic doesn't always work. Comes with Windows Speech Recognition so u can command it via your voice. also comes with built in Facial Recognition so it literally scans the users face and will use your face to log in. The best media play for this PC is the ZUNE media player.

As far as getting literally the most bang your your buck for a reliable Laptop this definitively is it. only few obsolete options built in

    1. 56k modem
    2. i. Link port
    3. HD DVD drive (Blue Ray is the Standard in HD)

I honestly don't see me getting another laptop anytime soon. This still is top of the line and has anything and everything you could want in a laptop. and Easily upgradeable to Windows 7 which fixes many problems.

  • "Excellent - Completely worth the money"
    on by mastag773

Pros Excellent speakers, controls work awesome, I personally really like Vista, a huge hard drive for music (I have 8000 songs bc I'm a DJ), nice bright glossy screen,... I love everything about this computer.

Cons It's really hard to come up with something that I don't like about this computer, I've had it for about a month now - Runs Vista 64 bit, and Adobe Flash doesn't support a 64 bit internet explorer, but get Mozilla (free download) and it works fine.

Summary Worth the money - I highly recommend it
