Pros Sony Vaio laptop 240F model was purchased from Best Buy. The design is attractive and the performance and features of the machine are a nice value at this pricepoint.
Cons Sony Vaio laptop was purchased from Best Buy & has a defective screen. It cracks with minimal use & results in a large red pixelized spot that spreads over the entire screen. The warranty does not cover this defect. The computer is now useless..
Summary Sony Vaio laptop 240F model was purchased from Best Buy approximately 1 month ago. I have used the Sony Vaio laptop minimally and always handled gently and with care. It never even left my bedroom. The screen suddenly cracked out of the blue and resulted in a large red pixelized spot, and proceeded to spread over most of the screen shortly after the crack happened. I thought this might be a Sony Vaio defect and tried to return it to Best Buy. However, Best Buy told me it was human error and that I must have dropped or scratched the screen myself. I thought it would be covered under warranty but screen issues are not covered. Best Buy's customer service was atrocious and they refused to take the machine back and told me that nothing could be done and that Sony would not take responsibility either. Upon further review after this incident, I learned that this is a very common problem with Sony Vaio laptop screens. The computer is ruined and useless and I'm now stuck with a $700 paperweight. Please learn a lesson from my experience and do not purchase a Sony Vaio laptop. I also do not recommend purchasing a laptop from Best Buy, as the were very rude, not apologetic whatsoever and basically told me it was my fault and would not even consider the possibility that the machine was defective.
Pros Almost everything.
Cons The only thing I've found annoying is that the number pad is kind of awkward to use.
Summary I've had my computer for over 5 years with 0 problems. As long as you get a quality anti-virus software you will have 0 problems. Compared to the other laptops I've used it was super easy to use and does everything I could possible want it to well
Cons Items that failed within 1 year and needed to be replaced are hard drive, battery, AC adapter. The screen also went out and needed to be repaired. Now the computer will only run in safe mode, the battery is dead again, and the hard drive freezes.
Summary Do not buy! Buyer BEWARE!
Pros At first, it worked well, but after one year, it started to have certain problems with hard drive even though I did not use it much
Cons It has a lot of cons, most importantly, after a year the hard drive did not work well, and now it is almost dead.
Summary Please do not buy this computer if you respect yourself.
Pros Beautiful, sleek looks. Incredibly fast browser, great multi-tasker, quick start-up, great price for all of its tech stats($650 in December 2009).
Cons Hard drive has been replaced 3 times, system restore has been done 5+ times. This computer crashes more than any other computer I have ever seen.
Summary This computer was flawless for a year with minimal browsing and computing, as I use a Lenovo for 100% of my work. 5 days before the year warranty expired my Hard Drive crashed, then it crashed again 2 months later, then again 7 months later. Now when I do a complete system restore it blue screens me every time I am 90% done with "preparing the system for first use". Do yourself a favor and do not buy a Sony VAIO, these computers are serous Crash risks. I had a 2003 Gateway that got me through 6 years, 5 of heavy college/grad work, with no problems. Oh and I hope you are fluent in Hindi when you have to call customer service. Sony sucks butt!
