Pros I have owned several VAIOs and was always satisfied with the prodcuts, so decided to acquire the latest SE series (i5, Silver).
- the design is great and the laptop is light.
- keyboard is ok
Cons - the ventilation fan is extremely loud! think vacuum cleaner. forget listening to musing while using Photoshop or playing games.
- I measured the CPU temperature around 90 degrees when playing games. This causes instability and crashes... daily!
Summary I am very disappointed by the noise of the fan on this VAIO. every time I hear it, it makes me regret buying this laptop.
The design is good and the specs are ok on paper, but the fan is so loud that it is just not possible to listen to music while using Photoshop or playing games.
the instability is also a big concern and forces at least 1 hard restart per day.
Cons Speakers are the worse that I've hear
Summary I purchased this laptop recently and in overall is a good experience, after one week that I decide to test the webcam I discover no color was a webcam in black/withe when I contact Sony support they install an update but the default set up (the computer was completely set up out of the box) was terrible.
Anyways when the camera start working with color I notice that quality of the webcam was not HD and they say in the website webcam HD, I've seen better webcam for $10 bucks. Basically the problem the webcam is using a windows generic driver of 2006, Sony needs to fix that, when you spend more than $1000 in a laptop what you expect is a good quality in all the aspects.
Another bad point is the speakers are really bad in comparison to the competitors, based on my research Sony has the worse speakers in the world.
If you don't use a lot those two feature or just don't mind about that this computer is right for you, is good enough for the people more exigent people. You have good components and good quality in all the computer and a non-apple design.
Pros Has a nice weight for traveling.
The Blu-Ray disc feature is very good for people who like to watch HD movies on-the-go.
Cons My biggest concern about the machine, believe it or not, is the noise it makes. This laptop possibly has the loudest fan I have ever heard on a computer in my life.
The i3 processor is nice, but slightly outdated.
Summary Overall, the Sony Vaio is a very nice machine, but, as said before, is not for everyone. A student studying in a library or any other place that requires silence would probably get kicked out. Someone who would like to play games on this laptop wouldn't be able to run them very well because of the i3 processor.
Pros nothing!! maybe a bit good looking
Cons very poor customer service! frequent break down
Summary Vaio is an absolute garbage! if you buy this you are pretty much betting on the machine. If it has any flwas, then, you are stuck bad. They are the only company that don't have return policy (unless you buy it from the store). I sent mine for repair, they didn't repair it properly and I kept getting the same problem and they kept saying send it for service until I decided to just throw this garbage away and assume the money is wasted and buy another laptop. But I promised them I will make everyone aware of this and that is why I am writing this review.
Pros Excellent Display, Good processing speed once its fully on, Great design, Really light weight, One of the best keyboards, Touchpad feels nice.
Cons Annoying Sony features, No manual control over keyboard backlite which is very frustrating at times. stamina/speed control is very cranky, Very slow start up, Display shuts off each time when switching from plugged in to battery or vice versa.
Summary I have previously owned Envy 14 and Toshiba satellite models and recently using vaio SE series laptop. The display looks great with 1080P and has good keyboard and touchpad. Design is excellent and extremly light weight. But it has some very annoying features as no manual control over the backlite which i miss from my ENVY 14.Each time when I switch from plugged in to battery or vice versa, the display shuts off which is really very annoying while playing a game or watching movie. More It is very slow at start up and you have keep staring at the screen till it takes full control of the desktop. Moreover the much talked about manual control of the GPU, the stamina/speed switch is very cranky while switching to either mode the the display just hangs up. the so called special buttons from vaio assist and vaio for me seems unnecessary.Although the keyboard is best the touchpad multitouch gestures are very poorly performing like the two fingure scroll..its useless if you try it which was great with ENVY 14. Plus it is quite over priced if wee take a look at the configuration it provides. As a conclusion I must say a good design wasted ... definitely dont go for it...And more importantly I miss the speed and sturdiness of TOSHIBA laptop... My old configuration Toshiba still works way faster than vaio SE with almost half the start up time.
