Pros light weight
great laptop PC
beautiful light-up keyboard
fun as tablet with windows apps
Cons cannot change the screen angle
Summary I bought Vaio Duo 11 because my old laptop was dying and I wanted light weighted one to travel with. I use mostly as laptop PC because I have no reason to say tablet is better than laptop. I have ipad too but I have not used it since I got my Vaio Duo!!
The reasons I used ipad were because it started quick and light weighted but vaio starts quicker and even lighter weight. It is more expensive than ipad but I need PC for my work so it was ok for me. It will be extra money to buy this but you may find great deal on Sony store website which I did.
Pros Excellent Sony build quality
Backlit key board
i5 or i7 processor
6Gb or 8Gb RAM
Lack of conventional trackpad
Summary With an i7 processor and 8Gb of RAM the Sony Vaio Duo 11 (SVD11) is a powerful cross between a tablet and laptop. The key is to recognize that it is not a tablet nor a laptop in the conventional sense. If it were not for the lack of a trackpad it would be the perfect device in terms of form factor and design... IMO.
The screen is brilliant and the backlit keys are a great bonus for a unit of this type. No other cross over device has the built-in connectivity options offered by the SVD 11 (USB 3.0, VGA, HDMI, SD slot, Headphone, and Ethernet). Battery life is not great so the optional Sheet Battery is a must plus you get a holder for the digitizer pen. Unlike some reviews I don't have a problem with viewing angle in laptop mode. Although not a brick you won't be holding it in one hand for extended periods of time when in tablet mode.
The SVD 11 like any tablet or laptop is not for everyone so don't buy it on impulse. It compares well against the Microsoft Surface Pro (i5 processor build) in terms of performance, looses a little ground with the lack of a trackpad, but beats it in connectivity options. As a Windows 8 hybrid device the Sony Vaio Duo 11 deserves a close look.
Pros Fast to boot up
High resolution screen
Cons Poor build quality
Summary I was delighted with my purchase at first. Near instantaneous boot up time. I had fun using it as a tablet. No problems there. But what I wanted was a machine that could be used as a laptop replacement. This is where the Sony Viao Duo 11 failed ... miserably!!
None of the legacy software that I wanted to install worked even though this was a Windows 8 machine. If the download succeeded at all, the setup would not run. Brought it back to the store. Same problem. They identified the wifi card as being faulty and gave me a replacement unit. But the second unit had the same issue! Brought it back to the store again and left it in for repair. When I went to collect it the next day I requested that they try to install yet another legacy software application while I looked on. Again, the same problem as before.
The in-store tech support guys gave up in the end and offered me a full refund.
For this to happen with one machine is bad enough but there is simply no excuse for two machines to be faulty like this. This reflects poorly on Sony's quality assurance and I would have expected more from them. You may be luckier than I was but ... this could happen to you too so be warned and steer clear ... unless you don't mind gambling with your money of course. Last time I'll buy a Sony anyway.
Pros -HD screen
-accessories (sheet battery and the screen protector)
-adobe does not support the n-trig stylus
-no place to store the stylus
Summary it was either the surface pro or the duo 11 and am glad I bought the duo 11. the bigger screen and the backlit keyboard come in handy although the screen keyboard is just as good. I bought the screen protector and it makes taking notes with the stylus even better and keeps the screen clean. planning on buying the sheet battery soon. should make it just about perfect.
Pros Fast. Has keyboard included and Touchscreen, should be a solution to work with a new trend.
Cons The screen has a factory problem at the left corner. It will constantly point the corner menu by itself. Also sometimes the screen blocks. It won't let you work.
Summary Do not buy it. It seemed to be the solution for work and new trend, but finally you will not be able to work at all. You will lose more time trying to repair it. First and last time that a buy a Sony... I miss my loyal Lenovo.
