Pros Second Gen i7 processor
Fast and powerful
Cons No complaints.
Summary I been looking for an above average laptop for awhile and I've finally found a great laptop that does it all. It's fast, and powerful. I've added the other 2 gigs of RAM, and it does everything that I want and need with ease! And trust me I do ask a lot from my Samsung. In fact I have an awesome desktop and have pretty much abandoned it since I've bought this laptop. The technicians at Samsung had done a superb job planning out this laptop! My Series7- 700Z5B laptop is Sleek, Fast, Powerful, and very Reliable! And the people who wine and pout about the touchpad might want to read the manual, I have no functional problems with it at all :) Best Bang for the buck.
Pros - Speedy CPU
- Discrete fast GPU
- 1600x900 resolution
- Matte non-reflective screen
- Light weight and stylish
- Superb battery life
- Quality* backlit keyboard
- 6 or 8 GB RAM
- 750GB HD with express cache
*Except for space bar issue
Cons - DVD instead of blu-ray
- Common insensitivity problem with space bar key*
- Webcam not great in low light
- Wifi does not support 5ghz band
*Can be fixed by inserting a rolled-up square piece of paper between middle of space key and its sensor.
Summary Among the positives for this laptop are its speedy CPU and GPU, readable resolution on the bright non-reflective 15" display, light weight, stylish form factor, really superb battery life, a great backlit keyboard (once the space key problem is resolved), and a good amount of RAM and hard drive storage.I mentioned the possibility of replacing the wifi with the Intel 5330 part in my review. I meant Intel 6230.
I use the touch pad as little as possible and prefer to use a mouse. It seems to work alright for me when I need it, but I sometimes disable it while typing so I can rest my palms. It is nice there is a function key to easily enable/disable the touch pad.
First, the space key issue. This is a quality control issue that should have never occurred, and I hope Samsung will send new space bar keys to all the people who bought this laptop. But until then, you can try the quick fix I referenced above.
The choice of DVD instead of blu-ray is odd and perplexing. However, I so rarely use even the DVD and to be honest I would probably never use blu-ray if it were included, so as strange as it is that the feature is missing, I don't mind.
I am not pleased with the choice of the broadcom wifi, which does not support 5ghz wifi. I have opened up this laptop, which is very easy (close the LCD, flip it over, remove the ten screws on bottom, then flip it back over, open the LCD and gently pry the case shell loose along the edges and then close the LCD and flip it over again and gently pull the bottom off), and replacing the broadcom wifi adapter with the Intel 5330 part should be very easy. There are only 2 antenna wires, so getting the 3 antenna version would be pointless. Also, be sure to get the one with bluetooth if you try this, otherwise you will lose bluetooth since it is provided by the broadcom wifi adapter.
The webcam camera does not work well in low light. Meh. Turn on a light, I guess.
There is a common issue with the space key on this laptop in that pressing it on the edge will often not register even if you press really hard. This is incredibly irritating for a touch typist, but today I solved the problem on my laptop! So if you have the same issue see my video on the quick fix over at YouTube video fRXr35mDyLM. Basically you just need to stick a square of paper between the space bar and its pressure sensor.
Also note that this S03US version is functionally exactly the same as the S01US version, with the only difference being that the first 4GB of RAM is permanently attached to the motherboard on the S03US. The S02US and S04US are likewise functionally identical. The Best Buy version (I don't know the product code) is completely different though. I have no idea why anyone would buy that one.
Overall the negatives are not a big deal for me.
Because the positives are so great I am giving this laptop 5 stars even though it has several negatives

Pros Anti-glare / matte screen. Easily accessible tech support.
Cons atrocious mouse, not 1080, no blue ray, problems multitasking / streaming online
Summary I had this laptop for 10 days before I returned it. The mouse is unacceptable. When you first move your finger across the pad it sometimes selects or drags/ highlights. When you move slow it is jittery and jumps around. I don't understand... didn't Samsung test these?
I was also having problems streaming. If I was using an online application AND streaming, the video would constantly stop and buffer. I never had these problems with my 3 yr old HP laptop. Testing side by side confirmed Samsung had MUCH worse internet performance than old cheap laptop. Mind boggling experience.
Pros Screen, back-lit keyboard,fast bootup
Cons Streaming Video Crashes Laptop, Space bar doesn't work
Summary I really read these reviews after I already bought this laptop. I went purely on the CNET review. And their review is spot on except for two major problems.
After receiving the laptop last week I tried to stream video online. The screen flickered and the computer made a loud screeching noise. Then the video went to a full screen of green, even though I could still hear audio. I then tried to load youtube to see if their video would work. My computer got a blue screen and crashed. I couldn't believe it.
Well, I had my vendor send me another one thinking it a fluke. Got my replacement this week. Tried video again and the same problem happened. The video driver crashed and recovered a few times, then the laptop shut down with a blue screen. This time I tried Samsung support.
They had me install a new video driver that they provided. This did nothing as video crashed again. I checked with them again, and they had me install a new lan driver which they provided. This crashed the computer.
I also noticed the mentioned space bar problem while I was on chat with Samsung. I kept having words run together that I typed. I thought maybe it was just me not used to a new keyboard, but then when I read the user reviews here I realized the space bar is faulty.
So, unless you never need to watch video online, or type anything, don't buy this laptop. While beautiful, for me it was unusable.
Pros Pretty and powerful
Cons Touch pad registers a double-click 1 in 10 times you move pointer from A to B, so you constantly drag/drop & highlight items you don't intend to. The space bar didn't register halfmyspaces due to insensitivity on right inch of key.
Summary CNET does a disservice with its superficial review: don't let the good looks and muscle fool you, this machine is not ready for the prime time. The track pad is a complete deal-breaker. No only does it have the mistaken double-click issue I mention as con # 1, but it is generally unresponsive, requiring unnecessary force to register a click, with even worse sensitivity on the perimeter. While the back lit keypad is sexy, the build quality is poor (see space bar malfunction in my con #2). The edge of the wrist rest where the plastic bottom meets the metal inner-top, while bearable, is a skin irritant and I've heard it pulls at the arm hair of some. The off center track pad location also takes some serious getting used to and means your left wrist hangs over the corner of the machine which over time starts to bug. Samsung is pointing in the right direction here and the price point ($999 at Best Buy, btw) is alluring when compared to Mac Book Pro, but overall the physical downsides of this machine required me to return it a week after purchase. Thanks for nothing CNET - next time get down in the weeds before you give such high praise to a new laptop line.
