Battery lovers, rejoice: the Samsung QX411-W01UB has one of the longest-lasting batteries I've seen in months. Our unit lasted 6 hours and 5 minutes, surpassing the excellent performance of the Gateway ID47H02 by 5 minutes and the Dell Inspiron 14z by 30 minutes. Laptops like the Toshiba Portege R835-P70 and MacBook Pro do last longer, but this is still great performance. The battery is nonremovable, however, being integrated into the laptop as we've seen so often lately.

A standard one-year warranty on parts and battery is included with the Samsung QX411-W01UB. This laptop configuration is a Best Buy exclusive, and on Best Buy's site you can add extended warranty plans: two years of standard protection for $139, or two years plus accidental damage protection for $249. We don't tend to recommend extended warranties from retailers (after all, $249 is over a third of the price of the laptop), but of course that's a personal decision.

The Samsung QX411-W01UB is a very good and extremely affordable Core i5 laptop that's got more than enough features to make it feel high-end. You might be sad not to have Bluetooth, a comfortable touch pad, or higher-end graphics, but considering how much money you're saving and how much is offered in such a smartly built chassis, you might learn to forgive these shortcomings.
