Pros This is a great laptop.
Cons None so far.
Summary Have not found any issues.
Pros Sleek, classy design that doesn't stand out but never looks bad. Glossy screen (I like 'em glossy). Decent CPU performance. GREAT keyboard.
Cons Touchpad isn't amazing. Isn't a really sturdy laptop; I dropped it on a corner once and now the battery isn't fully latched in, I lost a piece of the hinge, and I HAD some issues with it powering off randomly, and staying off.
Summary Not a 5-star product, but still a good laptop, and if you like the way it looks and can get it for a comparable price to similar laptops, go for it. Very much a productivity machine and I can't knock it for that.
Pros Price, size, features (e.g. available RAM, graphics card, etc.)
Cons Laptop housing (PLASTIC casing), power cord, glossy screen, battery design
Summary I've owned a Y470 for 9-ish months now and, although I'm satisfied with the many features of this system (e.g. the memory, chipset, screen resolution, bluetooth, etc.), I'm dissatisfied with the housing (e.g. the plastic shell/casing), the glossy screen, and the battery.
Yes, you can pack a great deal of memory/speed into this system for a relatively low cost, but in my opinion the laptop's power cord and housing are poorly designed. For starters, the power cord is clunky, could be longer, and is poorly designed. In particular, the piece that plugs into the computer is detrimental to the system should your computer fall. When my laptop slid off a two foot tall, slope edged coffee table onto a heavy pile carpet (e.g. it didn't fall far or hard), it cracked the housing, and popped the speaker panel partially out of whack BECAUSE it hit the attached power connector. I was able to snap the speaker panel back into place, but the casing is permanently cracked/damaged and a sharp piece of plastic is projecting from the side which cannot be removed without further causing further damage to the laptop.
Also, the screen is SO glossy that it's a challenge to see it when lights and/or brightness is present. Example(s): The reflection of lights and/or light colors diminishes my ability to make out what's on the screen. It's almost impossible to use this outside even when the screen is facing dark surfaces...etc, etc... Essentially, if there is other light around you (e.g. it's daylight or your in a lit space), it will compete with your ability to view the images on your screen.
Lastly, the battery life is great, but the battery EASILY pops out of the back of the laptop. If you pick up your laptop from the right side while you are using it, as many of us "righties" do, it's relatively easy to unknowingly unlock the battery (which then easily falls out) and lose valuable work and/or data.
The bottom line is that this is an overall great system internally, especially given that the available hardware configurations are primarily oriented toward performance, but there are some major external flaws/issues that warrant considering other laptop configurations and/or manufacturers. Had I known about these flaws in advance, I would have definitely purchased another system (likely from another manufacturer).
Pros its a computer
Cons customer service/warranty
Summary I purchased a V series computer from lenovo. I had an issue with the battery lock while it was still under warrenty. An internal peice of the battery locking mechanism broke and i called lenovo to inform them it had broken, they said it would be covered. A few days later they called to collect $187 for the entire plastic backing... the exterior of the computer is fine, it still is. It was an internal peice of the battery lock that broke and would fail to hold the battery in place. (zero damage due to user error, all internal!). I spoke with them for an hour and got nowhere. I called the next day and 30 min later the call center guy said i would be covered... then the next day i got another call where I was told that my claim was not going to be covered by their warranty. Then, they tried to get $90 extra for an upgrade in warranty. So now a few weeks later I finally have my computer back and they failed to fix the problem even though it was originally explained to me that it would be covered in the warranty. So in review, zero customer service, zero warranty coverage, and zero satisfation. DONT BUY A LENOVO.
Pros There are no pros
Cons Awful internet connection
Broke after 4 months (would freeze after 1-2 minutes every time I turned it on)
The most frustrating customer service experience of my life - passed around departements charging me each time and never fixed my computer
Summary Never buy this brand.
