  • "Wow- I am super impressed with this system"
    on by Jess9799

Pros Great processor, lots of customization options, cool look

Cons I guess the only thing I can think of is the DVD Drive does not support HD on the one I got. I didn't feel the need to spend the extra $$ to upgrade because who knows who will win the HD/BT battle

Summary I usually don't post reviews but the reviews on CNET really helped me and thought I would try and help others in the daunting task of purchasing a notebook. Like someone else said, I did my homework and have to say I am REALLY impressed with HP-- so much that I turned out Apple and am replacing my Dell. This system has it all- my two main concerns were that the laptop have an Intel Core processor and the Vista Ultimate--- HP made it so easy. I too went to Best Buy to preview the machine, fully knowing I was going to purchase it directly through HP. A system comparable to this system at Apple is well over 2500. And the HP phone reps were very efficient.

    Updated
Actually, the price of a comparable Apple is 3,000 plus!!

  • "Black hole (a variant on Crash & Burn)"
    on by zephyr99

    Pros Beautiful, loaded with features

Cons Didn't survive three days of use

Summary I've been partial to HP products and have multiple desktops, laptops, laser printers, color laser printers, etc. in my tech arsenal. I thought my new dv95xx would be a clear winner for it's category. Day 1: set up, connected to network, updated / validated security, minor aesthetic configuration; Day 2: loaded device drivers, set up mail accounts and--after further use without issues--began to load my licensed software. Day 3: while answering an email, the unit went BLACK. Totally died. HP, bless them, has outsourced tech support to individuals who read from a script in a foreign country. Call 1 involved transfers to 3 departments (includes mistakes in transfers) where the line finally gave a "sorry, you loose" type message and disconnected. Call 2 suggests perhaps "the motherboard has fried or the hard drive failed" (DUH) and the best I can do is return to place of purchase OR wait for a box (1-2 days), call FedEx for pick up, wait for delivery to service center, wait 2-3 days for repair, and another potential day for return delivery. Having burned some high end license installs on a BRAND NEW unit, I'm a tad displeased with the current status. And, hey! I live in one of the largest metropolitan areas of the U.S. -- where's the option to just TAKE it somewhere???

  • "HP's computer was defective"
    on by Bigt35

Pros It worked for 3 weeks before locking up

    Cons Defective hard drive

Summary Wow, I have had a horrible experience with this computer and with HP. Within a month of receiving the computer, it locked up. Technical support took hours and hours of time to figure out the problem, and I had to buy an external hard drive to remove the data from the computer. Customer service failed to get back to me in the time they said they would. At every step along the process, they've given me substandard service. I don't see myself ever purchasing another HP product after this experience.

  • "Yes, Perfection is a possibility!!!"
    on by haider_unik

    Pros Everything About It!!!

    Cons Gamers go to hell!!!

Summary Definitively the best looking laptop. For the money.

Forget Sony VAIOs and Toshiba's "satellite" pieces and Dell's "gaming freak" notebooks. This right here, is the measure by which all others should me checked.
Tons of features which, even some of the most-expensive laptops don't posses.

Any consumer can last a really long with this thing. By just looking at it can make it seem uncompromising, because, after all, it doesn't come with 4Gb of RAM, and a Graphics Card of 2Gb, which is, now, the requirement of any SICK gamer. Buy hey, gaming is not everything. But still, 2Gb RAM and a 256Mb 3D
Card is decent enough. For the most of us...

Plus you have the HD-DVD drive as an extra option makes it even more uncompromising.
The best thing though, is the price. It's cheap although it doesn't look it, in any way. And is offered with a huge amount of options. So it's pretty much perfect, even better.

    I'm buying it...

  • "The OS is JUNK and Does not work as advertised."
    on by fshoemak

Pros I can think of very few.

Cons Hard drive reporting does not work once the system is loaded via recovery discs.

Summary HP's version of windows ultimate is horrible and does not work as advertised.

It will let you create a backup file but you cannot retrieve it. The cdrom duel layer does not work correctly.

My machine has been to calif. from ny twice and I have lost 42 days of utilization. The last time the service dept. lost my ac adapter and loaded the wrong OS on it.

My case manage strung me along for weeks and basically lied to me.

If you buy HP you will be sorry.
    Fred
