Pros Lightweight, Portable
Battery Life is OK
Fingerprint scanner is really good
Cons Touchpad has problems
Keyboard has some problems
Really slow start up time
Summary I got my HP Pavilion dm4 for school. It worked out fine for a long time because it is lightweight, portable, ok battery life, nice looking, and an efficient fingerprint scanner. It is a great computer, but compared to Macs, it is not that great, but personally, I don't like Macs...
So I usually take notes, and I accidentally hit the touchpad while typing, and it flies everywhere, or clicks so that I type somewhere else.
The Keyboard is fine when I'm taking notes, but in some games or when I am typing fast, I usually miss a key, so when I'm typing,"good morning, how are you?" It would say, "god mrnig, hw are yo?" So basically it is VERY annoying.
It has a relatively slow turn off time for me, and a very slow start up time. There were no screen problems, hardware problems for me, but just a few weeks ago, the touchpad completely stopped working. It might be the think slots around the touchpad that takes in moisture and dirt, so yeah. I restarted my computer, but it didn't help my poor touchpad.
It is a great computer, but has a few problems. I recommend you buy one, but don't keep it for that long unless you're willing to pay for repairs after warranty.
Pros Easy to use.
Cons - Extremely slow
- Constant Microsoft updates
Summary I had my HP pavilion for only 8 months when the hardrive mysteriously crashed one day. My computer wouldn't turn on. Windows could not start. I lost all my data/files. Thanks to the warranty, I got a replacement hardrive. My last computer went for 6 years without a problem.
I read tons of bad reviews about HP on line but stupidly bought a pavilion laptop anyway. Big mistake. Will never do again.
Pros Speed. Lightweight. Sleek design.
Cons Audio quality
Summary I have owned this laptop for over a year and love it. Very fast. Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the sound quality could be better. Very lightweight, good battery life. Looks and runs like new after a year of heavy use. True, not as "sleek" as a Mac but I really love the design. For me, the fact that it is FAST and LIGHTWEIGHT are keys in giving it 4 stars. Also that is is like new after a year.
Pros - Good Screen
- Fantastic, Large Touchpad
- Great style (reminds me of a MacBook Pro, which is always good)
- Nice chrome accents
- Choice!! You can add and subtract things from the laptop to alter the price
Cons - No Backlight
- Fingerprint reader doesn't work on all websites
- Shows SOME fingerprints
Summary This laptop is a great student. For roughly half the price of a MacBook Pro, it's a great alternative for college penny-pinchers. IT has a great style, and I would absolutely suggest it for anyone.
Pros - battery life
- overall look
Cons - keyboard
- no BlueRay
- screen won't open up as far as I'd like
Summary I bought this laptop to replace my previous HP pavilion dv7. As a college student, the dv7 was simply too big and heavy, had too poor a battery life, and (main problem) heated up way too much (causing the fan to be way too loud). After the problems I had with my dv7, I was going to buy a different brand laptop, but both my parents work for HP so the discount was too much to pass up. In the end, I am glad I bought this laptop because it resolved the main problems I had with my dv7. Aesthetically speaking, I think this is one of the best-put-together-looking non-apple laptops available. The only significant problem I would complain about is the damn keyboard. I tend to type quite quickly, and this sticky keyboard forces me to slow down (or mash the buttons) in order to avoid typing mistakes. Overall, this is a great, stylish laptop for anyone on the go (especially students).
