"Great computer - but with highly reflective screen"

4.5 stars  | on by jlr9999

Pros

Fast, great antenna for WiFi, love the numeric keypad, wide screen works well with movies. HP built it to my specs in Shanghai and it was fascinating to watch it move from Shanghai, through Paris and on to the US.

Cons

The screen is one of its best features, as well as its worst. Reflections are a constant nuisance unless I'm wearing a black shirt in a darkened room. Short screen height can also be a problem with MS Office ribbons.

I've had my G60-t 600 for four months now. It came with Windex 7, which seems to be OK, I guess. It loads faster than my old HP laptop with XP, and that's very welcome and very valuable with a laptop. I miss the battery indicator that tells how many hrs/min are left - this just shows the % of charge remaining. I assume that "feature" is due to HP, rather than Microsoft, but it's a step backward.
The case and screen are fingerprint magnets, as others have pointed out. What's really bad is the highly reflective screen - really a nuisance. It can be pretty bad in a bright room if wearing a white shirt. HP have built non-reflective screens for laptops before, so I know they can do it right. Another downside for the screen is that it's wide (340 mM), but not very tall ((195 mM). That's great for watching movies, but with all the ribbons that come with MS Office, it cuts down on the usable space. For that reason, I have stayed with my old Office 2000 and am increasingly using OpenOffice.
On the plus side, I love the numeric key pad. I need to enter a lot of numeric data and the key pad saves a lot of time.
One more thing - I have two power supplies for my old HP laptop, but they aren't interchangeable with the G60-t. When I checked HP online for adapters to use my old power supplies with the new laptop, I didn't find any, but I was struck by the huge number of power supplies HP have for their laptops. It doesn't make sense - they can adapt to either 120/240 volts and 50/60 Hz, but they can't/don't tailor the port and electronics or the jack and power supply so that all take the same. I suggest cutting down on unnecessary parts variation and save some $$$. Or maybe power supplies are a big profit center.

I really recommend this computer to anyone who can get around the short (vertically) reflective screen. Nearly all the other features have been great!!!!!

I absolutely love my new laptop. I've had it for four days and so far everything is great. The screen is beautiful, the processor is very fast, webcam works and microphone works perfectly. I also love the 10-key keypad; that is a definite plus! The only con I see is that there is no dedicated volume button. You have the hold down the function key and press the + or - key to adjust the volume. Other than that, this an excellent laptop for a very reasonable price.
