Pros Simple clean lines similar to a thinkpad. No fluff, just what you need.
Cons Not flashy, may be too basic (physical appearance) for some people.
Summary This is my 3rd laptop and by far the best one yet. I've spent close to $2,000 for a laptop that had the works and made it very personalized (you know, choose your own color cover, trimmings, etc), however I was never satisfied with what I was getting after that big purchase.
I've also purchased a less inexpensive model which just didn't have enough ooommff for my taste, still not satisfied.
When I came across the Compaq 6715b I was simply looking for an upgrade. I recently got a new position of emplyment where having a laptop would come in useful, not a travel junky but just be mobile.
I went to a big chaing tech store and I was somewhat comfortable with a Toshiba model, but the store rep referred me to this "business" model which seem to look decent. Grant it, it's very simple...nothing flashy, very business like, but that's what makes it look so nice. I found it to be an ideal laptop for work. The HP Mobility Center is great for projects and presentations.
But what really makes this an excellent laptop is what you get for the price. Sure, it's not a macbook pro or a high end Alien or falcon northwest, however you sure get alot for the price. I was also able to negotiate the sales rep to upgrade to 2 GB on the RAM (FREE) since it was on sale and I was going to purchase a new carrying case.
If you're looking to get a solid entry/mid-level laptop for under 1k, look no further.
